Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham

Ballantine Books
Expected April 30, 2013

Summary from Goodreads:

A charming and laugh-out-loud novel by Lauren Graham, beloved star of Parenthood and Gilmore Girls, about an aspiring actress trying to make it in mid-nineties New York City.

Franny Banks is a struggling actress in New York City, with just six months left of the three year deadline she gave herself to succeed. But so far, all she has to show for her efforts is a single line in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters and a degrading waitressing job. She lives in Brooklyn with two roommates-Jane, her best friend from college, and Dan, a sci-fi writer, who is very definitely not boyfriend material-and is struggling with her feelings for a suspiciously charming guy in her acting class, all while trying to find a hair-product cocktail that actually works. Meanwhile, she dreams of doing “important” work, but only ever seems to get auditions for dishwashing liquid and peanut butter commercials. It’s hard to tell if she’ll run out of time or money first, but either way, failure would mean facing the fact that she has absolutely no skills to make it in the real world. Her father wants her to come home and teach, her agent won’t call her back, and her classmate Penelope, who seems supportive, might just turn out to be her toughest competition yet. Someday, Someday, Maybe is a funny and charming debut about finding yourself, finding love, and, most difficult of all, finding an acting job.

I know this book comes out really soon but I don’t even care. I have been anticipating the publication of this book for sooooooo long, and I just can’t wait to get a copy of it in my hands! I have loved Lauren Graham ever since I watched her as Lorelai Gilmore in one of my favourite TV shows ever, Gilmore Girls. If you haven’t seen that show, GET ON THAT!!! I can’t wait to see how her amazing sense of humour transfers into her writing.

PS. I may even splurge and get the audiobook copy of this book too, because she reads it!!! I listened to a snippet of it and fell in love!! Listen here.

I also figured I would share this, one of my favourite Gilmore Girls quotes from Lorelai:

  1. I love Lauren Graham, but alas I’m always skeptical of novels by actors. So, I’ll be eagerly awaiting some reviews before I grab a copy (ok let’s be real, I’ll probably grab it even if the reviews aren’t great). Nice pick :)

  2. I think you’re going to enjoy this one Natalie! I felt like it was Lauren telling me a story – all her charm and wit really came across, and it was funny and touching and just OH SO GOOD. I’m thinking I might have to splurge for the audiobook too because I’d love to hear her read it! :-)
PS – I’m HUGE Gilmore Girls fan too. When one of my best online friends read my review for Someday, Someday, Maybe she suggested we do a marathon, so we’re going to start watching it together (and by together I mean from thousands of miles apart since I’m in Ontario and she’s in Tennessee lol) in June. So excited – it’s been awhile since I watched it!
