the perfectionistsThe Perfectionists by Sara Shepard

HarperCollins
Expected October 7, 2014

Summary from Goodreads:

In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them. They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke…until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.

From Sara Shepard, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, comes another story of dark secrets, shocking twists, and what happens when five beautiful girls will do anything to hide the ugly truth.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m all about mystery books, especially murder mysteries! Sara Shepard’s latest book, The Perfectionists, seems like it will be the book to fill the mystery story void that has occurred on my bookshelves as of late. The premise sounds quite interesting, with these five girls who plan out the perfect murder – with no intent to act on their plans – as a joke, or just a way to get their hateful feelings out. Then the murder happens, and they have to find out who did it. If this book is anything at all like the Pretty Little Liars series, I’m prepared for anything and everything that could possible happen. I can’t wait to read this edge-of-your-seat story!
P.S. I’m loving the typography on the cover!
Are you looking forward to reading The Perfectionists? Have you read any of Sara Shepard’s other work? How do you feel about mystery books? What book are YOU waiting for this Wednesday?
Expected September 23, 2014
Summary from Goodreads:
Darcy Patel has put college and everything else on hold to publish her teen novel, Afterworlds. Arriving in New York with no apartment or friends she wonders whether she’s made the right decision until she falls in with a crowd of other seasoned and fledgling writers who take her under their wings…
Told in alternating chapters is Darcy’s novel, a suspenseful thriller about Lizzie, a teen who slips into the ‘Afterworld’ to survive a terrorist attack. But the Afterworld is a place between the living and the dead and as Lizzie drifts between our world and that of the Afterworld, she discovers that many unsolved – and terrifying – stories need to be reconciled. And when a new threat resurfaces, Lizzie learns her special gifts may not be enough to protect those she loves and cares about most.
I remember reading Scott Westerfield’s Uglies series way back when I was in elementary school, and I really liked it! He always comes up with interesting ideas that get you hooked, and the cover art on his novels is always simple, yet really draws you in. It looks like Afterworlds is going to be no exception to the rules!
The thing that is most interesting to me about this book is how there is going to be a story within a story – literally! I’m excited to see how that plays out; if the two stories may end up tying together in some way. But even if they don’t, both sound interesting enough to stand on their own. Darcy’s life story will be no doubt interesting to all of us aspiring authors who haven’t taken a leap quite as drastic as her character has, and getting to read the story about a place between the living and the dead that she put everything else aside for sounds fantastic.
Are you looking forward to reading Afterworlds? Have you read any of Scott Westerfield’s other work? What book are YOU waiting for this Wednesday?
the here and nowThe Here and Now by Ann Brashares
Delacorte Press
Expected April 8, 2014
Summary from Goodreads:
Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.
Thrilling, exhilarating, haunting, and heartbreaking, The Here and Now is a twenty-first-century take on an impossible romance. Ann Brashares’ first novel for teens since The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about a girl from the future who might be able to save the world . . . if she lets go of the one thing she’s found to hold on to.
Meet seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.
Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth. But everything changes when she falls for Ethan Jarves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I’ve been a huge Ann Brashares fan ever since the days of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, so when I heard that she was having a new YA book published I was really excited! I loved her adult novel about time travel, My Name is Memory, and I can’t wait to read this one!!! Having to emigrate to a new time to live in, but having to live with the pressure of not messing up anything in history sounds like a very interesting and stressful way to live. I’m excited to read about Prenna’s new life in present day NYC and to read about her old life in the future!

Summary from Goodreads:

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhhhhhh boy. What happens to Lara is this book sounds like any girl’s worst nightmare!!! Imagine if all the feelings and thoughts you’ve ever had about the boys you crushed on but were always too afraid to tell them were suddenly being told to each an every one of them! I know I would be freaking out, to say the least. I’m really excited to read this one – I can’t wait to see how Lara deals with what happens, and what the “something good” is that may come out of everything that happened. Also, how cute is the cover?!?! Love it!
A dying girl who wants to cross off everything on her revenge filled bucket list – who it turns out isn’t dying anymore?? Count me in! Side Effect May Vary sounds like it is going to be a very emotional book that will spur on a lot of my own thinks about things. Also, cute typography on the cover, I’m a goner!!!
Expected July 8, 2014
Summary from Goodreads:
A mysterious and visceral page-turner about a seventeen-year-old girl who unravels the secrets of her alternate personality, reminiscent of the film Memento.
You live and you remember.
Me, I live and I forget.
But now-now I am remembering.
For all of her seventeen years, Molly feels like she’s missed bits and pieces of her life. Molly suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and since she was a little girl, she’s played host to Mabel, a completely separate and individual personality. When Mabel is in control, Molly experiences the blackouts she’s been so scared of. But now Mabel is letting Molly in on her secrets; she’s letting Molly remember. And in doing so, Molly uncovers the separate life she seems to have led…and the love that she can’t let go.
The Half Life of Molly Pierce is a suspenseful, evocative psychological mystery about uncovering the secrets of our pasts, facing the unknowns of our futures, and accepting our whole selves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As soon as I read that this book was about dissociative identity disorder I was hooked. I know that this is one I’m going to have to read ASAP. I’ve been interested in dissociative identity books ever since I read and adored Pretty Girl-13. It is just such an interesting and unusual concept to think and write about. I can’t wait to read about what Molly Pierce remembers about the other half of her life!

I first saw Elusion on Debby’s blog a few weeks back and it immediately caught my eye. First of all, can we all just admire the cover together?! It’s sooooo pretty!!!!!! Secondly, that description is amazing! The concept behind this book sounds incredibly intriguing, and I can’t wait to read about Regan and how Elusion affects her. The only problem with this book is that we have to wait until March to read it! :(
